Homeworld ’81, in Bradwell Common, was a significant and nationally important Housing Expo commissioned by Milton Keynes Development Corporation. This ambitious and pioneering undertaking put Milton Keynes on the map as leader in innovative housing design. The theme for the Expo was ‘innovation’ and many of the 36 homes focussed on environmental and eco innovations ahead of their time, some of which are still important today in a world of Climate Emergency and Carbon Zero targets.
The Homeworld at 40 two-week programme was series of online events, talks, debates commissioned by Pooleyville for MK City Council and supported by Archive partners Living Archive, MK City Discovery Centre, Buckinghamshire Archives and London Architects Curl la Tourelle Head.
As part of the programme and led by Living Archive MK, a new dual in-person app-based Homeworld trail was created around the Expo site for people to explore the amazing archives and history, and a new film Homeworld '81: 40 Years On was commissioned showing old archivers, images and interviews with three former MK Development Corporation workers revisiting and touring the site together.
